Track of the Week: Theatre Royal ‘Souvenir’

ALL ABOARD THE ONE LOVE OASIS BOAT PARTY!
TRACK OF THE WEEK: Chris Bridgett ‘1988’
This week is from an artist who will be familiar from to those that saw his solo set at Skegness and previously a blistering set in Minehead from former band Cold Water Swimmers.
Chris has just released a new album and follow up to last years brilliant “Speedboat on Chappel St” titled 7 Songs for Summer. Released on physical format only for the foreseeable with the intention of it being listened to as an album should be in its sequence an entirety – away from the oh easy skip through and deluge of streaming versions.
1988 is Chris’s autobiographical song from a golden period of Hacienda Hot nights, the Kitchen in Hulme, all nighters in the crescents and everything in between that was a precursor and beginning of a heady 18 months ahead in Manchester. A song that will tweak memories and resonate with many.
Some words from Chris from his Facebook post on the song.
1988 is the third release from Seven Songs for Summer and understand it’s autobiographical. An era that has spawned a million books, some by authors I never saw on the dance floor, a story told many times, but never by me, and not like this, never in a song, so this is it. It’s my story, my song. 1988 was the year I stepped out into the world away from education – I’d dropped out of Poly 6 months previously. In 1988 I joined an ace band, made records, went out every fucking night for four years, hustled, was witness and participant at the birth of Acid House and that scene – Blackburn, Hot nights at the Hacienda – I did them all. We lived rent-free in Hulme, paid no utilities – nothing – we bought and sold to fund our lifestyles – we were outlaws and that’s the truth.
